Just posted on the BBC website it turns out that Spock actor Leonard Nimoy gave fans a special treat!

Sci-fi enthusiasts in Austin, Texas turned up for the classic film only to find Nimoy introducing the first public showing of director JJ Abrams’ prequel.

The film was given a six minute standing ovation and one filmgoer said fans were “crying they were so happy.”

Star Trek, the 11th film in the franchise, is due for release on 8 May.

It follows James T Kirk as he graduates from Star Fleet Academy and becomes captain of the starship Enterprise.

Chris Pine takes over the role of Kirk which was played by William Shatner in the 1960s television series and seven of the films.

The prequel had its official world premiere in Sydney, Australia on Tuesday night.

Film company Paramount arranged for Nimoy, along with the film’s writers and its producers to unveil the film to hardcore fans first and the audience from Monday’s unexpected showing immediately started posting reviews on Twitter.

One fan called it “the best Star Trek movie ever” adding, “yes, it even beat Wrath of Khan”.

Another said, “the cast is superb, the story is compelling, the action is exciting”. Another simply added: “Just saw the new Star Trek movie and it MELTED MY PANTS!!!!!”

The enthusiasm carried over to the Sydney Opera House premiere, where one viewer reported “there were a lot of moments where the audience spontaneously burst into applause”.

Last night Lost season 5 kicked off in the US with 2 episodes. For people like me in the UK who have a US proxy we can watch this online today and I’m really looking forward to it!

This penultimate season looks to be a good one too!

I was recently searching for a new TV show to tide me over til Prison Break and Supernatural’s new seasons can out and I was recommended the show Alias.

The show centres around a CIA spy called Sydney Bristow and her father Jack. They work as double agents within a criminal organisation called SD-6 that poses as the CIA duping it’s workers into thinking they are working for the government. It later focuses more on a mystical prophecy.

It’s written and produced by JJ Abrams, the same guy who came up with Lost so you get the usual cliff hangers and non liner plots although it does work very well.

Sydney Bristow’s character is good, although the character that steals the show in my opinion is her father Jack. His charater is very hard nosed, and through past betrayal and other personal motives comes across as an aging spy who is very sharp and knows how to get the job done. He’s even more of an interesting character because he doesn’t look like a typical ruthless figure you’d expect.

I’m now into season 4 and it seems that the show was reinvented to fit a similar format that served the first season well.

Now that Prison Break has started i guess I’ll be juggling 2 series.

I finished watching the last 2 episodes of season 4 of Lost this weekend! Man they were good. They always give you answers and then add a new huuuge question on the end, and this was no exception.

Who get’s off the Island we knew.. but it answered the big one of how do they do it? It’s all explained… but there is much more that needs answering as a consequence including a big “SURPRISE” as a footnote….. lets hope that in the final two seasons they answer them.

I’m a little peeved that the next season is not due for almost a year. But then i guess good things come to those who wait!

At least we can take solace in knowing they’ve kept strong characters like Ben… he’s the unknown in the series that seems to have given it new dynamic… he does things both good and bad… but all are justified from a narrow perspective! He’s the type of character everyone loves to hate!

Another little titbit for you! A friend of mine told me that Jack’s dad will play a pivitol part in the next few series… he’s been popping out of thin air recently which doesn’t seem to be too much of an issue considering he’s been dead since before the first episode… i guess we’ll see
